Brief

Kathak, one of eight Indian Classical Dances comes from a Sanskrit word "Katha" which translates to story. It started as a dance form to recite stories, tales and myths about Lord Krishna and Radha, Lord Shiv and Parvati, Ramayana and Mahabharata. This dance form has three gharanas (family or lineage) Lucknow, Jaipur and Banaras Gharana named after the cities they evolved.

Kathak, a legacy that long would've gone through a lot of changes and would have evolved not just in terms of the performitivity but also with spaces, technology and specially while incorporating different perspectives along with the various time periods. The project focuses on the different factors contributing to the change in the essence of kathak dance form. I tried to create an impact on the dancer’s mind and making them rethink about the joy the artist gets while dancing and evoking curiosity in the dancer’s mind about - is the dancer lost? This project tries to bring light to the intimate relationship between the art and the artist.
